An Editor Bids Farewell … and Hello

Eight months ago, after a career in magazine journalism, I signed on to be the managing editor of this website.

It’s been a great ride.

During my short tenure, we’ve launched a host of new features from Noon News and the Charitable Events page to Weekend Plans and the State of Retail series. We’ve increased the content on our holiday sections, giving you gift guides, restaurant specials, and reader contests. And due entirely to the efforts of the indefatigable Adam Smeltz, our senior editor and reporter, we’ve kept you abreast of the news that matters.

As of today I’m stepping down from my role. But this isn’t good-bye. I’ll be continuing my biweekly column, reporting on school lunch, the local food movement, and anything else that sends me to my keyboard. I’ve enjoyed the instant feedback that comes with working for an online media operation, and look forward to pursing ideas that have been suggested by my readers.

As for the site, it’s in excellent hands. I’m happy to introduce the new managing editor, Rich Kerstetter. Rich is an award-winning writer with 30 years of experience in the industry. He has worked for such papers as The Express-Times in Easton, The Lewistown Sentinel, The Sunbury Daily Item, and The Williamsport Sun-Gazette. From 2000 to 2010 he worked at the Centre Daily Times, where he collaborated with Adam. He managed a team of 11 reporters, and directed comprehensive news coverage of this region. Rich and Adam give the site a local news team that is unparalleled in this region.
