When the District 6 playoffs started last month, few could have predicted Bellefonte baseball would end up here.

The Red Raiders entered as the bottom seed having battled back to an 9-11 record from an inauspicious 1-7 start to the season.

On Friday afternoon, Bellefonte made it seven postseason wins in a row, defeating Susquehanna Township 2-0 in the PIAA class AAA championship game at Medlar Field for the baseball program’s first-ever state title.

The victory came after the championship game was postponed from Thursday due to weather. It turned out to be a fortunate turn of events for the Raiders, who thanks to the extra day were able to put pitcher Dom Masullo on the hill. The senior tossed a complete game shutout, allowing three hits while striking out five.

The senior pitcher also worked out of bases loaded jams in the fifth and sixth innings.

Bellefonte got on the board with two outs in the third as junior Tyler Kreger’s single off of Susquehanna Township’s Dan Warshawsky was enough to score freshman Colton Burd from second.

Junior Garrett Reiter got on base with a single in the fifth off of Austin Dressler and later scored on an Indians’ error.

Susquehanna put two on base in the seventh before a ground out to Reiter at second sealed the title for the Raiders.
