Two area businesses are looking to expand near the University Park Airport, with hopes that the extra space will help them grow even more in the future.

At different stages of development in the Airport Park subdivision on the corner of Fox Hill Road and High Tech Road are potential new facilities for Nittany Express taxi service and Keystone Payroll.

Nittany Express operates out of the airport, offering shuttle service for air travelers, and also provides taxi service for the State College area. Plans are in the works to construct a 2,240-square-foot building to be used as an office and serve as a vehicle maintenance facility. An additional parking lot also will serve as a spillover parking area for airport car rental companies.

The facility is in the final planning stage and will be located on High Tech Road, about 1,000 feet north of Fox Hill Road. A conditional use meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Benner Township Municipal Building to discuss the project and to hear any comments concerning the zoning.

Slightly to the north of the Nittany Express site, Keystone Payroll plans to construct a 6,960-square-foot office building and a 635-square-foot storage garage. The 20-year-old company is currently located on Colonnade Lane, near Wegmans. Sales manager Kylie Crutchfield said the new building will give Keystone Payroll the space the company needs to serve its expanding client base.

“We continue to grow, and the new, bigger building will allow my sales team to have the space it needs to do our work,” said Crutchfield.

She said the company has more than 1,000 clients across the country and works with other businesses in all aspects of employee services.

The plans for the new facility, located directly across from Penn Skates, are still in the early stages, but the hope is to begin construction by next year.

The Centre County Board of Commissioners is considering a memorandum of understanding for the plans regarding construction details, and will vote to approve the work on Tuesday.
