Centre County reported 37 new COVID-19 cases on Friday to bring its total to 615 since the first was reported on March 20.
The county also had 342 new negative test results, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. A total of 16,036 patients in Centre County have tested negative for the virus.
According to the state’s early-warning monitoring system dashboard, Centre County’s positivity rate over the past seven days is 5%, up from 1.5% the previous week.
In the past week the county has added 173 new cases, the vast majority in the State College and University Park zip codes. Exactly how many of those are related to Penn State student testing should become clearer when the university updates its COVID-19 dashboard later on Friday.
Among Friday’s new cases, 32 were in State College and University Park zip codes. One new positive was reported among Centre County nursing and personal care homes, which have had a combined 36 patient cases and 22 employee cases at eight facilities.
According to DOH data, Centre County has one COVID-19 hospitalization. Across Pennsylvania, 497 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 66 requiring use of a ventilator.
There were 11,436 new negative test results statewide. A total of 1,576,879 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for the virus.
An estimated 82% of COVID-19 patients in the state — about 112,883 — have recovered, according to a DOH calculation. The recovery estimate increased by 1%.
The health department reported 10 new COVID-19 deaths, increasing the state’s total at 7,742. DOH has reported 11 total COVID-19 deaths for Centre County, the most recent on Aug. 14. The coroner’s office has confirmed only seven, ranging in age from 74 to 96.
Most COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have been among patients 65 and older, according to DOH.
Of the patients who have tested positive the age breakdown is as follows:
- Approximately 1% are ages 0-4;
- Nearly 2% are ages 5-12;
- Approximately 4% are ages 13-18;
- Nearly 11% are ages 19-24;
- Approximately 37% are ages 25-49;
- Approximately 22% are ages 50-64; and
- Approximately 23% are ages 65 or older
Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 133,731 are confirmed and 3,931 are probable. In Centre County 568 are confirmed and 47 are probable. All 37 cases reported on Friday were confirmed.
