The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for a 26-county area in Pennsylvania, including Centre County.

The watch is in effect until 10 p.m. on Tuesday. A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for thunderstorms that are capable of producing tornadoes in the watch area. A warning is issued when a tornado has been sighted or indicated by radar.

Thunderstorms, some of which may be severe, are expected to move through the region throughout the afternoon and evening on Monday. Damaging wind gusts of more than 60 miles per hour, large hail and flash flooding are possible, according to a NWS severe weather outlook.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Centre County by NWS at 4:50 p.m. and was in effect until 6:45 p.m. A line of storms moving toward the area could bring wind gusts of 60 miles per hour, which could cause damage to roofs, siding and trees.

The storms accompany a cold front moving into the area. According to AccuWeather, temperatures will be much cooler over the next three days, with high temperatures in the mid to upper 50s.
