The Fourth Annual Happy Valley Culinary Week is under way with the celebration of cooking, local foods and the chefs who prepare them continuing through Sunday. The weeklong event is sponsored by the Central Pennsylvania Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Participating restaurants are offering special discounted, fixed price multi-course menus as part of Culinary Week. Area restaurants offering special menus this week are (click on links for the special menus):

In addition to the special menus, special events are scheduled through the week.
On Wednesday, Webster’s Bookstore Cafe, 133 E. Beaver Ave., will offer vegan cooking demonstrations starting at 5:30 p.m. Demonstrations — which last 45 minutes and feature a tasting following the presentation — also will be held at noon on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday.
From 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday and 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Above the Valley Special Event Center will offer tours of the newly renovated facility that was once home to the Mt. Nittany Inn the top of Mount Nittany Ridge, 559 N. Pennsylvania Ave./Route 144 in Centre Hall.
The South Hills Food Festival returns for another year from noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at the North Lawn of the South Hills School of Business, 480 Waupelani Drive. The festival will feature food vendors, live music, chef demonstrations and giveaways. Cooking demos begin at noon.
From 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Kitchen Kaboodle, 104 W. Beaver Ave., will have demonstrations of various kitchen gadgets.
The State Theatre presents the movie ‘Chef,’ at 4 and 7 p.m. on Friday. The film is the story of a chef who loses his restaurant job starts up a food truck in an effort to reclaim his creative promise, while piecing back together his estranged family. The Southern Alleghenies Chefs Association will be selling Cuban Sandwiches in the lobby before the show.
