Everyone in the State College area deserves a pat on the back for surviving the latest extended, brutally cold spell.

Now, you’re about to be rewarded — with the forecast calling for a warmer weekend.

AccuWeather Meteorologist Bob Smerbeck says the high temperature for Saturday and Sunday will be near 40 degrees.

Saturday will be mostly cloudy and generally dry. The low for Saturday will be 34.

For Sunday, a couple of rain or snow showers are possible early in the day. If there is snow, Smerbeck says it will melt quickly because Sunday’s high will be around 40.

On Monday, there is a chance for a bit of snow in the morning. Smerbeck predicts the heavy snow will stay south of State College. The high will be 30.

Tuesday will start out with sun and highs will be in the mid 30s. AccuWeather, as of Friday, was predicting significant snow to the north between Tuesday and Wednesday, but not for State College.

“We’re going to miss out on the heavy snow,” Smerbeck says.

However, Tuesday into Wednesday a storm will move in that could potentially bring significant ice accumulation.
