The liquor license used by the former 797 Sports Bar and Lounge will be sold via an online auction this month, according to an announcement this week.

Located at West College Avenue and Burrowes Street, the State College lounge has been closed for nearly a year. A state licensing bureau objected in January to a routine renewal of its liquor license. The Bureau of Licensing cited, in part, a history of disturbances at 797.

Those disturbances included ‘a stabbing, fights, loud music and disorderly operations,’ a state report reads.

Per a request from the establishment licensee, the 797 liquor license was placed under ‘safekeeping’ status early this year, according to the state Liquor Control Board. As of Thursday, the license was listed as ‘inactive’ in a state database.

Ketan K. Patel is listed as the active managing officer of the 797 organization. StateCollege.com’s attempts to reach him have been unsuccessful.

Bidding for the liquor license will run from Oct. 26 to Oct. 28, according to an advisory Wednesday from Philadelphia-based Comly Auctioneers and Appraisers. The auction will be handled via www.comly.com.

Comly could not be reached immediately for comment. StateCollege.com will post more details as they become available.
