Bernie Cantorna, Democratic challenger for Centre County District Attorney, picked up two more endorsements this week.
State College Mayor Elizabeth Goreham and former state representative Ruth Rudy both offered their support for the local trial lawyer, who is facing incumbent District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller in May’s primary election.
Cantorna previously received the endorsement of Bald Eagle Lodge #51 of the Fraternal Order of Police, whose membership comes from all police departments in Centre County as well as parts of Blair and Clearfield counties.
“The FOP’s endorsement of Bernie says a lot to me,” said Goreham, who is in her last year as mayor after deciding not to seek a third term. “The State College police force is known throughout the state as among the best, and I rely on their judgment. Young people make mistakes.Bernie Cantorna is the partner our police need in dealing with students, to turn their lives around. Felony convictions ruin lives. Bernie favors education for prevention and restorative justice for rehabilitation. He can rebuild the community’s faith in the justice system.”
Rudy, who started her career in office as county prothonotary in 1975 before serving 14 years in the state house representing the 171st district, also gave her support during a ‘Women for Bernie’ rally in State College this week.
“I think I know something about the workings of the courthouse, having served there for seven years,” said Rudy. “This is the premier race in the county this year. I am proud to endorse Bernie Cantorna because he can bring the change we so desperately need.”
Cantorna, a partner in the law firm of Bryant and Cantorna in State College and Millheim, has practiced law for 27 years, 18 in Centre County.
Parks Miller is seeking her third term as DA.
The primary election is May 16.
