The mass shooting on Wednesday at a Parkland, Fla. high school that killed 17 students and staff and injured 14 others has once again heightened concerns about school safety.
On Thursday morning, State College Area School District Superintendent Bob O’Donnell sent a message to families emphasizing that student safety is the district’s top priority, with multiple security measures and procedures for different emergency scenarios.
While he could not discuss specific details about safety plans, he explained the district conducts drills, holds training sessions and works consistently with local police and emergency service agencies.
Centre County Report’s Alyssa Palfey talks with Chris Rosenblum, SCASD communications director, more about local school safety measures, and Tara Shaffer, mother of three children in the district, about preparing kids for emergencies.
