Jeff Gordon, the retiring NASCAR driver, is visiting the Creamery next week as part of an public relations appearance to announce a partnership between Penn State and Axalta Coating Systems.
Gordon will be driving through campus in a replica car prior to the event.
According to a Penn State news release, Gordon will drive his No. 24 car along Curtin Road, showcasing the new Axalta paint scheme he will also use at the Pocono 500 this summer.
The drive will begin outside of the Business Building at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday and proceed to the Bryce Jordan Center before circling back to the Berkey Creamery.
The event will announce a partnership between the university and Axalta to support STEM and business education.
One hundred students from the Smeal College of Business and College of Engineering will have a learning opportunity with Gordon and his team at Pocono Raceway the weekend of June 6 as part of the deal. Students will visit his garage and learn about engineering of cars during their visit.
The university is encouraging members of the public to stand along Gordon’s route and will close the stretch of Curtin Road to traffic during his drive from 4:20 p.m. to 4:40 p.m.
