Colleen Kennedy will seek election to succeed Richard Fornicola as Centre County Treasurer.

Fornicola recently announced he would not run for a sixth term as treasurer.

Kennedy, of State College, currently works as an accountant for a local manufacturing company where her duties include accounts payable, receivables, and purchasing. Throughout her career, she has been an accounting clerk, government auditor, and treasurer for non-profit organizations.

“In addition to my many years of financial experience, I would bring to the office an earnest dedication to service, integrity, and professional ethics,” she said in a news release.

Kennedy said she would focus on friendly service using modern conveniences when possible; accurate, timely and complete financial information to provide a sound basis for county decision-making and transparent reporting; fair and consistent enforcement of ordinances; and efficient and cost-effective processes to save the county time and money.

In addition to her work in finance, she also has pursued a career in music as a teacher and director.

‘My experience as a choral director has honed my skills in budgeting, organization, and management,’ Kennedy said. ‘Working for government agencies, as an educator and as an auditor, has given me a deep respect for the responsibility of positions of public trust.”

The County Treasurer’s Office receives and disburses county money as prescribed by the controller and the commissioners. It works with county departments to facilitate the receipt and disbursement of county funds and distributes payroll and general expense checks.

It also acts as a state agent for the sale of hunting, fishing and dog licenses, sportsman’s firearm permits, bingo and small games of chance licenses and special raffle permits. The treasurer serves on the county retirement board, collects the hotel occupancy tax and is responsible for acquiring and awarding bids.

The primary election is May 21. The first day to circulate and file nomination petitions is Feb. 19.
