The Penn State women’s basketball team rebounded from a loss last week in its Big Ten opener, knocking off Wisconsin, 82-49, Monday afternoon.
Sophomore guard Maggie Lucas led all scorers with 18 points and chipped in a career-high seven assists, leading a well-balanced offensive attack that saw three players score in double figures and all 10 players that got into the game score at least four points.
Trailing by two, a Lucas 3-pointer kickstarted a 14-0 run that ended with about eight minutes remaining in the first half, and Penn State never trailed the rest of the way.
Mia Nickson, playing in her second game since returning from a concussion, finished with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Nikki Greene added 14 points and seven rebounds. Nickson’s return has been a boost for the Lions on the glass. In a 71-63 loss to Nebraska last Friday, Nickson pulled down four of the team’s 25 offensive rebounds. Monday, she pulled down eight, and the Lions out-rebounded Wisconsin by 17.
The Lady Lions (11-3, 1-1 Big Ten) return to action at 2 Saturday afternoon against Michigan State at the Bryce Jordan Center.
