The damage from Hurricane Harvey may be 1,500 miles away, but a number of organizations in the State College area are working to provide help for those affected.

State College Area School District has initiated a campaign to aid the Humble Independent School District, which was hit hard by the hurricane. Penn State student organizations have banded together to organize fundraisers, and food and supply drives.

Penn State Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council have undertaken fundraising efforts, and Penn State Christian Athletics has rented a moving truck to fill with supplies and take to Texas. Nittany Lion basketball coach Patrick Chambers is donating athletic gear.

From academics to athletics, local organizations are doing their part to help those whose lives have been changed by Hurricane Harvey. Centre County Report’s Emma Curtis takes a look at some of the efforts that are under way in the area.
