Classes at Park Forest Middle School are canceled for Monday as workers continue cleanup from flooding in the school caused by heavy rain Thursday night and Friday morning.
‘Although we had contractors and district maintenance working throughout Friday and the entire weekend, the building is still unsuitable for students and teachers,’ State College Area School District Superintendent Bob O’Donnell said in announcing Monday’s closure.
Schools were not in session on Friday because of a scheduled Act 80 day.
O’Donnell said the district will monitor progress throughout the day on Monday and will provide an update in the afternoon on the status of classes for Tuesday.
‘Once the school clean up process is certified as complete and safe, we will return to normal operations,’ he added.
The rest of the school district is operating as normal. Delta Middle Level families residing in the PFMS attendance area, will need to be transported by parents or guardians to PFMS and arrive at the front office parking lot between 7:45 and 7:55 a.m. to be shuttled to Delta at 8 a.m. If families cannot arrange personal transportation in the morning to PFMS or the Fairmount building, the absence will be excused.
The district will transport Delta Middle Level students who reside in the PFMS attendance area to their homes after school on Monday.
