Thursday’s snowstorm is taking a toll. State College Area Schools never opened on Thursday because of slippery conditions.
Penn State University was open but has decided to send students and faculty home early. The university is closing at 2:15 p.m.
State College Borough has declared a snow emergency along with surrounding townships. Cars must be removed from streets until the snow has stopped and the roads have been plowed. Cars that are not moved may be ticketed and/or towed.
We’ve seen cars and trucks sliding and spinning their wheels. It’s difficult if not impossible to get going on many hills.
StateCollege.com is keeping a close watch on area roads and we can tell you they are a mess because of the snowstorm. Even major highways are snow-covered. Snow and slush is several inches deep in some spots. PennDot is asking residents to stay home if possible and keep off the roads.
Speeds have been reduced to 45 mph on I-80 in Centre, Clearfield and Clinton counties; I-99 in Centre County; and Route 22/322 in Mifflin and Juniata counties.
