Four Penn State players have been invited to the Jan. 28 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., the most since 2003.
Defensive tackle Devon Still, defensive end Jack Crawford, cornerback D’Anton Lynn and offensive guard Johnnie Troutman will all suit up for the North team, the university announced Thursday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on NFL Network.
Five Nittany Lions were selected in 2003, led by NFL first-round draft picks Michael Haynes, Bryant Johnson and Larry Johnson. Still, the Big Ten’s defensive player of the year, is the only PSU player projected to be drafted in the first round, according to NFLDraftScout.com.
‘It’s a great opportunity because I get to go up against some of the best players in the country and I get to prove that I’m also one of the best players in the country,’ Still said in a press release. ‘I’m just looking forward to going against some of the best offensive guards and offensive tackles and just prove that I am a No. 1 defensive tackle.’
Crawford recorded 40 tackles this season and led the team with 6.5 sacks, which tied him for sixth in the conference.
Lynn was eighth on the team with 49 tackles, and his eight pass break-ups tied him for the team lead.
Troutman helped anchor an offensive line that allowed a conference-low 14 sacks. He also helped pave the way for tailback Silas Redd to eclipse the 1,200-yard mark in his first season as the starter.
‘The Senior Bowl is the top all-star game you can play in, so getting an invite, I’m pretty honored and I’m real excited to be able to compete against the best players in the country and see where I’m at,’ Lynn said in the release.
