Penn State finished up a wild few days on the recruiting trail with two more commitments on Monday evening.

The first, a familiar name but a different person as Rivals five-star linebacker Brandon Smith verbally committed around 5:00 PM. The 6-5, 215-pound prospect racked up 117 tackles and 6 sacks as a junior, leading Louisa County to Virginia’s Class-4A championship game.

He is rated the second best inside linebacker in the 2019 class according to the 247 Network.

The second commitment, four-star defensive back Tyler Rudolph out of Oakdale, Conn, made his collegiate decision around 6:00 PM not long after Smith made the call himself. The 247 Network ranks Rudolph as the 22nd best defensive back in the class.

In total the two Monday commits add to a quickly increasing assortment of 2019 prospects with their sights set on State College. Penn State’s current haul for 2019 is eight players deep, doubling in size in just five days.

Earlier this weekend Penn State landed two four-star commitments in No.1 overall running back Devyn Ford and athlete Marquis Wilson.

The entire weekend kicked off a day early last Thursday with JUCO safety Jacquan Brisker of Lackawanna Community College verbally committing as a grad transfer. Brisker will be immediately eligible to play per NCAA rules.

Penn State’s class is currently ranked 14th in the nation.
