The State College Spikes are no longer affiliated with the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to a report by the Centre Daily Times.
Citing multiple unnamed sources, the Spikes will announce a two-year agreement with the St. Louis Cardinals to serve as their Single-A short-season affiliate.
The Cards were the Major League Baseball parent organization for the Spikes in 2006, the team’s first season in State College.
The Spikes went 39-36 that year. They never had a winning season in the six years using Pirates’ prospects.
