Penn State President Graham Spanier, former Athletic Director Tim Curley and retired Senior Vice President for Finance and Business Gary Schultz are all slated to appear in court Tuesday for a pre-trial hearing in Harrisburg.
The three defendants are facing multiple charges, including perjury and failing to report child abuse related to Jerry Sandusky, a former Penn State defensive coordinator who a judge sentenced to 30-60 years in prison for sexually abusing boys.
The perjury charge stems from the defendants’ testimony during a 2011 grand jury investigation into the Sandusky scandal.
A pre-trial hearing at the Dauphin County Courthouse is slated to start Tuesday morning before President Judge Todd Hoover. The hearing could last up to four days.
The number of defendants and issues involved determine the length of the hearing.
The case was assigned to Dauphin County because that is where the grand jury met and also where the charge of perjury allegedly occurred.
Authorities charged Curley and Schultz with perjury and failure to report shortly after Sandusky was indicted on Nov. 4, 2011. Investigators charged Spanier with the same offenses on Nov. 1, 2012. Authorities also charged all three men with endangering the welfare of children, criminal conspiracy and obstruction of justice.
All three men say they are innocent and will vigorously defend themselves in court.
