SpringBoard, the Centre County business incubator that opened last year in Bellefonte, has a new tenant.

At their meeting this week, Centre County Commissioners introduced Eileen Scott, whose Scott Coaching will become the second business in the work space at 120 S. Water St. in Bellefonte, across from Talleyrand Park. Hello Social, a social media management and advertising business, became SpringBoard’s first member in October.

Commissioner Mark Higgins said Scott is part of a new initiative that will allow the next five tenants at SpringBoard to start out at $5 a month for the first five months. In exchange they assist the incubator with services, consulting and holding meetings for the general public.

‘The SpringBoard incubator has already assisted with things like First Sunday in Bellefonte and getting the Bellefonte merchants reenergized,’ Higgins said.

Scott Coaching works with clients and offers workshops to help people achieve their goals and lead more fulfilling lives.

‘It’s about working with people, empowering them. Specifically, it’s to help those who need to bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be in life,’ Scott said. ‘Often people get stuck in the minutiae of life or other people’s expectations. They go down the cultural path of expectation and they forget they’re uniquely gifted and talented and called to be something in their own right.’

Scott works with individuals to integrate their goals into their lives. By helping them find time for what is most important to them, people can feel healthier and at peace with their lives, she said.

‘We look at the whole person and the way they’re living their life,’ Scott said. ‘It’s just by listening, walking with the client, letting them direct the conversation, letting them come to us and say ‘This is what I need, this is what I want,’ or helping them articulate what it is they want.’

She works with people of all backgrounds. In 2017, she spoke to Bellefonte Area School District teachers and has worked with individuals from high school students to business professionals.

‘At the core it’s getting down to those values, beliefs and what’s most important that people can really create a true and authentic life with, she said. ‘It sounds cheesy but it’s really true. It really makes a difference in people’s lives.’

A native of New York, Scott and her husband moved to Bellefonte five years ago. For nearly 15 years she was a reporter who worked on personality stories, a focus that led her to her coaching business.

‘I realized that everyone has a story, but as a reporter I found just the right-placed question opened up a path of their life they hadn’t even considered or a story we didn’t intend to reach,’ she said. ‘At this stage in my life, I’ve lived long enough and heard enough stories that I felt I wanted to help people live those lives even better and not just tell those stories, to ask those questions that get them thinking and get them looking within themselves for the answers instead of looking to other people.’

Scott recently held a workshop on goal-setting and planning at Webster’s Book Store Cafe in State College. On Feb. 13, she will hold one on smart living.

‘It incorporates the ideals of smart goal-setting into how you live your life, specifically, measurable on a longer timeline,’ she said. ‘It deals with that integration, looking at the whole life.’

She’s also planning an ‘artist’s way’ workshop focused on empowering people to give voice to their creativity. Fees are around $25 for workshops, with package plans available.

SpringBoard offers office facilities, amenities and business support services and any Centre County professional, entrepreneur or startup can apply for membership.

Scott said that SpringBoard, which was extensively renovated before opening last May, provides a ‘magnificent’ location, from its meeting room and quiet space to its view of Talleyrand Park.
