Heather Catalena started singing at an early age growing up in State College. On Tuesday, she got a chance to perform on national television.
Catalena (nee Sheridan) is part of the 150-person Angel City Chorale the performed in the live quarterfinals of America’s Got Talent. The group delivered a powerful performance of ‘This is Me’ from The Greatest Showman.
“I’ll make this quick. If I had died during this performance and this is heaven, I’m happy ’cause that’s what it felt like. It was amazing,” said judge Simon Cowell of the performance.
Catalena grew up on University Drive and attended State College area schools until she was in the seventh grade when her family moved in 1979 to Los Angeles, where she has lived ever since.
Her father, Peter Sheridan, is a Penn State alumnus and taught biology at Park Forest Middle School. He also is a musician who played with bands around State College.
Catalena has been with Angel City Chorale for five years and has been a featured soloist at each of the group’s Los Angeles concerts as well as one in New York.
Angel City Chorale will find out if it advances to the next round at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
