As staff at a local car dealership inspected a new arrival on Tuesday, they found something suspicious in the vehicle’s spare tire compartment.

Ferguson Township Police were called to the scene and discovered that the package contained 25 pounds of marijuana.

The new car was connected to a shipment of vehicles from an assembly plant in Mexico, and police said 13 other cars distributed across the United States were found to have had similar packages of marijuana in the spare tire well.

The estimated street value of the marijuana is $100,000, according to police.

Similar incidents occurred earlier this year with shipments of Ford Fusions to Minnesota. Between February and March police there seized 22 new cars, all shipped from a plant in Mexico, that had a total of 1,100 pounds of marijuana hidden in the trunks.
