Traffic-Control Pole Felled in East College Avenue Crash; Cause Unknown

All four lanes of East College Avenue closed for a time Tuesday evening after a single-car crash, according to a police report.

It happened about 9:30 p.m. on the 2200 block, near the entrance to the Giant supermarket plaza in College Township, police said.

A westbound 2008 Pontiac sedan driven by Karen Dides, 27, of State College, veered onto the shoulder of the road, ran over a street sign and struck a pole, according to the police report.

The pole, which supported intersection traffic lights, fell to the ground.

An officer at the scene found Dides to be unconscious, according to the police report. When she came to, police said, she was confused and unsure of her surroundings.

Dides, suffering a headache and aches, was taken by Centre LifeLink to Mount Nittany Medical Center, according to the police report.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
