Those looking for a different fast food option in Bellefonte may soon have a new choice as plans for Wendy’s are in the works near the Weis Market Plaza.

Spring Township Manager William McMath said the plans have been in the works for over a year and they have been conditionally approved. He said conditions for the plan are “pretty cut and dry” as it is for a traditional Wendy’s restaurant at 123 Buckaroo Lane.

The restaurant would include a drive-thru. There is no timetable on when construction would potentially begin, and the township is waiting on word from the developer.

Daniel D. Forrestal bought the 3.42-acre lot at 123 Buckaroo Lane on Dec. 13 for $500,000. Forrestal is the operator of a Wendy’s restaurant franchise in Montoursville, but could not be reached for comment.

There are 257 Wendy’s locations in Pennsylvania and one of those is on North Atherton Street in State College. The fast food chain, famous for its square burgers that are never frozen, has been around since 1969 and has 5,791 stores in the United States.

The Weis Plaza opened in 2012 highlighted by the 62,000-square-foot Weis Market. Other businesses in the main shopping center include a state liquor store and Geisinger Care Works.
