Penn State football has added former Mississippi State cornerback Audavion Collins to its roster, Collins announced the move on Tuesday on his Instagram page. The defensive back saw no action during his freshman season at Mississippi State.

Previously, Collins committed to the Bulldogs as a three-star and member of the 2022 recruiting cycle. Collins chose Mississippi State over the likes of Michigan State, Cincinnati, and Tennessee. He hits the scales at 6-feet even and 165-pounds according to Mississippi State’s roster.

For Penn State the addition of Collins bolsters a coverage room not short on skill and potential but still looking to replace the loss of safety Ji’Ayir Brown and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. Standout corner Kalen King looks to be the foundation of Penn State’s secondary unit in 2023 but Collins joins a bevy of players alongside Brown and senior safety – and State College native – Keaton Ellis who should lead the Nittany Lion coverage unit.

Cornerback was not listed as an immediate need by Penn State coach James Franklin this spring, Franklin focusing more on defensive tackle and receiver, but as Franklin noted – Penn State will always say yes to a good player wanting to join the fold.

“We will not turn down a great player at any position,” Franklin said after Penn State’s spring scrimmage. “So, the coaches we were talking about how the phones are buzzing. It’s all over the place right now. It’s crazy.”
