Penn State defensive end and former four-star prospect Ken Talley has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Multiple outlets first reported the news which Talley effectively confirmed on Twitter. Additionally, Penn State’s current roster no longer lists Talley as a member of the team.

The freshman leaves before appearing in a game for the Nittany Lions, having just recently arrived on campus.

A product of Northeast High School in Philadelphia, Talley was ranked the ninth-best player in Pennsylvania for 2022, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings

He was the final member of Penn State’s freshman class to arrive on campus, where he joined a talented room of defensive ends including redshirt senior Nick Tarburton and redshirt junior Adisa Isaac. Freshman Dani Dennis-Sutton is the highest profile name among the young defensive ends on the team in addition to Zuriah Fisher and Maryland transfer Chop Robinson.

Still young in his career, it’s unknown why Talley opted to move on from Penn State even with presumably a few more players ahead of him on the depth chart. Whatever the case might be, Talley is the second young Penn State player to transfer as fall camp beings as a Penn State Athletics spokesperson confirmed that running back Caziah Holmes is no longer with the program after spending two seasons with the team.

Holmes had seen some game action but was otherwise not in the Nittany Lions’ main rotation in 2021.
