Joe Paterno Fired: Why Urban Meyer Won’t Pass on Penn State Job

At some point, the Penn State Nittany Lions will have a new face leading their young men onto the field. Urban Meyer is the perfect man for what is the toughest job in college football at the moment.

Before we delve into hypotheticals, let’s say that Penn State has lost a great deal of its allure. It will take years before the most honorable football program in the nation can hold its head high once again.

It will take a master of recruiting to get top-tier talents to sign their four years away to living in Happy Valley. The Nittany Lions are now a project. But the next coach doesn’t just have to rebuild the program, he has to rebuild the name.

Joe Paterno is now out as head coach at Penn State, ousted in humble means. Tom Bradley now has an uphill battle as interim head coach, a title that he may one day have to relinquish to another. This is where Meyer comes in.

There were rumors flying around before the scandal that Urban Meyer was asked about the job at Penn State, so you can bet he will be asked in earnest once again.

With Meyer getting an assumed call, we can now speculate if he would jump at the offer. I can’t see why not. The man loves a challenge and the one at Penn State is the toughest.

Money will be no object as the Nittany Lions attempt to bring a marquee name to dissolve the torrid past that is just being unearthed.

The one thing that has me confident of a Meyer hiring is that Meyer is above all else a family man. Before this awful scene, Penn State was the epitome of a family.

Meyer may gravitate to the hope that he can instill and shape the actual version of that facade in a place that is still special.

Penn State may be in shambles, but Meyer is the perfect man to rebuild this program into what we always thought it was, an honorable one.
