Atherton Street Gas Line Relocation Switching to Daytime Schedule

After working overnight this week, Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania will move to a daytime schedule on Monday for its gas line relocation work on North Atherton Street in State College, according to PennDOT.

Work will take place from 7 a.m. to dusk Monday, Oct. 25, through Friday, Oct. 29, between White Course Drive and Clay Lane.

PennDOT urges drivers to use caution through the area and to build extra time into their travel plans. Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic movement as needed.

The work is part of the next phase of PennDOT’s Atherton Street improvement project, which will span from the Curtin Road intersection to the Westerly Parkway intersection.

Substantial work is expected to begin next spring and will also include sewer and water line replacements; roadway, drainage, pedestrian and traffic signal improvements; and streetscape additions along a portion of the work area.

The project is scheduled to conclude in early summer 2024.

A similar, three-year project on North Atherton Street between Aaron Drive and Curtin Road concluded last summer.
