Big Ten Reveals 2021-22 Wrestling Schedule

Penn State wrestling will open its Big Ten schedule with a road trip to Maryland on January 7, 2022, the Big Ten announced Tuesday morning.

The conference’s wrestling schedule provided the first concrete glimpse at the Nittany Lions’ season upcoming season. Penn State will go on the road face defending national champion Iowa and will host perennial conference power Ohio State.

Here’s the full list of the Nittany Lions’ planned Big Ten matchups:

  • Penn State @ Maryland — Friday, January 7
  • Indiana @ Penn State — Sunday, January 9
  • Rutgers @ Penn State — Sunday, January 16
  • Penn State @ Michigan — Friday, January 21
  • Penn State @ Michigan State — Sunday, January 23
  • Penn State @ Iowa — Friday, January 28
  • Ohio State @ Penn State — Friday, February 4
  • Nebraska @ Penn State — February 6 or 11 (TBD)

As always, exact times and TV destinations for Penn State’s duals will be announced at a later date.

Although they’re not confirmed by Penn State just yet, three opposing programs have announced non-conference duals against the Nittany Lions. Penn State will match up against Sacred Heart in Manheim on Nov. 14, host Army on Nov. 18, and hit the road to face Penn on Dec. 3.

Once the Big Ten regular season wraps up, Penn State will join the rest of the conference in Lincoln, Nebraska, for this season’s Big Ten Wrestling Championships March 5-6. Last season, both Roman Bravo-Young and Aaron Brooks won conference titles, while Nick Lee and Carter Starocci took second place at their respective weight classes.

Following Big Tens, Penn State will head to Detroit for the NCAA Championships. The Nittany Lions will need to work hard to improve on last year’s showing, which featured four individual champions in Bravo-Young, Lee, Brooks, and Starocci. Despite the effort, Penn State came up short in the team race and finished 12.5 points behind the Iowa Hawkeyes.
