Candidates Set for State College School Board, Centre Region Township Races

With the primary election now two months away, candidates are set for Centre Region township positions and what will be a crowded field for State College Area School Board.

March 9 was the deadline to file nomination petitions and Tuesday was the last day to file challenges to petitions. Candidates cast lots for ballot positions on Wednesday.

Primary Election Day is May 18. Candidates have until March 24 to withdraw from the ballot.

State College Area School Board

For State College Area School Board of Directors, two incumbents and six challengers are cross-filed on Democratic and Republican ballots as they look to win one of four positions up for election this year. Incumbents Jim Leous, who is running for mayor of State College, and Lori Bedell are not seeking re-election this year.

Directors are elected to four-year terms on the nine-member school board

College Township Council

Two positions on College Township’s five-member council are up for election this year, with two incumbents and a challenger on the ballot for the primary. Council members are elected to four-year terms

Ferguson Township

Ferguson Township’s two at-large supervisor positions are up for election this year. One incumbent and three challengers are on the primary ballot. The other incumbent, Steve Miller, is term-limited and not eligible to run again for two years.

Halfmoon Township

An incumbent and two challengers are looking to win nominations for the one Halfmoon Township supervisor position up for election this year. Halfmoon Township supervisors are elected to six-year terms on the five-member board.

Harris Township

Two Harris Township supervisor positions are up for election and the incumbents are the only candidates on the primary ballot. Harris Township supervisors are elected to six-year terms on the five-member board.

Dennis Hameister (incumbent)

Republican:
Franklin Harden (incumbent)

Patton Township

Three of five positions on the Patton Township Board of Supervisors will be up for election this year. Two are for full six-year terms and one is an interim two-year position.
