Centre County Adds 1 COVID-19 Death, 32 Cases

Centre County registered one new COVID-19 death and 32 more cases of the virus on Tuesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The death is the county’s 244th attributed to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic and eighth reported this month.

The new cases bring Centre County’s total to 20,474 (18,525 confirmed and 1,949 probable).

Pennsylvania added 3,742 positives to increase the statewide total to 1,544,463.

With 79 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 31,055.

The county also had 74 new negative test results for a total of 82,180. Statewide there were 5,486 negatives to bring the total to 5,683,738.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 34 COVID-19 inpatients, one more than on Monday, with three in intensive care and two on ventilators.

The patients range in age from 50 to 92, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Eleven are fully vaccinated and 23 are not vaccinated.

Pennsylvania has 2,798 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 12 since Monday, with 681 in intensive care [-2] and 377 on ventilators [+10], according to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard.

An estimated 91% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Monday.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Tuesday morning, 84,594 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+70 since Monday] and 7,094 are partially covered [+57]. Third doses have been administered to 8,046 county residents [+472].

Among the county’s entire population, 64.8% have received at least one dose and 54.7% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 72.3% have received at least one dose and 60.8% are fully vaccinated

Statewide, 71.4% of adults and 60.1% of the total population are fully vaccinated. Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administered, according the CDC.

Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
