Centre County Adds 1 COVID-19 Death, 62 Cases

Centre County registered one new COVID-19 death and 62 more cases of the virus on Wednesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The death is the county’s 234th attributed to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic and third this month. The county had three COVID deaths in August and one in July.

The new cases bring Centre County’s total to 18,893 (17,113 confirmed and 1,780 probable).

Pennsylvania added 4,394 new positives to increase the statewide total to 1,392,266.

With 66 new COVID-19 deaths statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is 28,998.

The county also had 151 new negative test results for a total of 78,362. Statewide there were 11,185 negatives to bring the total to 5,364,459.

Hospitalizations

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 32 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, with two in intensive care and two on ventilators — all unchanged from Tuesday.

Pennsylvania has 2,518 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 97 since Tuesday, with 613 in intensive care [+4] and 314 on ventilators. Hospitalizations are at their highest level since April 25.

An estimated 91% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Transmission Level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update on Tuesday afternoon.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Wednesday morning, 82,392 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+88 since Tuesday] and 6,436 are partially covered [-34]. Booster doses have been administered to 1,160 county residents [+46]. According to the Centers for Disease Control, 61.1% of the county’s entire population and 68.1% of adult residents have received at least one dose.

Statewide, 67.9% of adults are vaccinated and Pennsylvania is fifth in the nation for total doses administered, according the CDC.

Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.

A free vaccine clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Bryce Jordan Center prior to the Penn State football game against Villanova.
