Centre County Adds 1 COVID-19 Death, 86 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 6,091 New Positives
Centre County registered one new COVID-19 death and 86 more cases of the virus on Sunday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The death is the county’s 264th attributed to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic and sixth reported this month.
The new cases bring the county’s total to 23,357 (21,039 confirmed and 2,318 probable). Centre County also had 103 new negative test results to bring the total to 84,948.
Pennsylvania added 6,091 positives bringing the statewide total to 1,779,151. There were 4,286 new negatives for a statewide total of 5,932,513.
With 43 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 33,902.
Hospitalizations
According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 56 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, seven more than on Saturday, with six in intensive care [-4] and six on ventilators [-2].
Pennsylvania has 4,106 COVID-19 inpatients, 62 more than on Saturday, with 885 in intensive care [+4] and 486 on ventilators [+6]. Statewide hospitalizations are at their highest level since Jan. 22.
An estimated 91% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.
Prison cases
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has 23 active COVID-19 cases among inmates and 22 among staff, the second highest among state correctional institutions.
Rockview state prison has three active inmate cases and 19 among staff, the third most among SCIs.
Both facilities are in Benner Township.
At Benner, 1,551 inmates are fully vaccinated, 10 are partially vaccinated and 197 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 284 are fully vaccinated and 344 are not vaccinated.
Rockview has 1,688 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 61 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 325 are fully vaccinated and 392 are not vaccinated.
Transmission level
All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.
Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.
Vaccinations
DOH did not update vaccination numbers Sunday. As of the last update on Friday morning, 88,690 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 10,269 are partially covered. Third doses have been administered to 24,243 county residents .
Among the county’s entire population, 69.4% have received at least one dose and 54% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 75.7% have received at least one dose and 58.8% are fully vaccinated.
Statewide, 69.5% of adults and 59% of the total population are fully vaccinated.
Vaccination appointments through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
All adults are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
