Centre County Adds 112 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 7,606 New Positives

Centre County reported 112 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday to increase its total to 22,912 according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Among total cases 20,636 are confirmed and 2,276 are probable.

Pennsylvania added 7,606 positives, bringing the statewide total to 1,744,526.

According to DOH, Wednesday’s new cases included 372 positives reported from two labs that collected results more than four days ago.

The county also had 38 new negative test results to bring the total to 84,729. Statewide, there were 5,463 new negatives for a total of 5,911,989.

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 258.

With 100 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 33,521.

Hospitalizations

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, 40 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, one fewer than on Tuesday, with four in intensive care [-1] and four on ventilators [+1]

Mount Nittany Medical Center’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard, which includes information on inpatient ages and vaccination status, was not updated as of 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Pennsylvania has 3,939 COVID-19 inpatients, 63 more than on Tuesday, with 858 in intensive care [-15] and 498 on ventilators. The statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations are the most since Jan. 23.

An estimated 91% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has 42 active COVID-19 cases among inmates — three more than on Tuesday and the most among state correctional institutions — and 26 among staff [-8], also the highest among any SCI.

Rockview state prison has one active inmate cases [-1] and 13 among staff [+2].

Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,565 inmates are fully vaccinated, 13 are partially vaccinated and 196 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 283 are fully vaccinated and 345 are not vaccinated.

Rockview has 1,675 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 60 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 324 are fully vaccinated and 393 are not vaccinated.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Wednesday morning, 87,577 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated [+557 since Tuesday] and 10,844 are partially covered [-361]. Third doses have been administered to 23,285 county residents [+335].

Among the county’s entire population, 68.9% have received at least one dose and 52.6% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 75.2% have received at least one dose and 58.5% are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 69.3% of adults and 58.4% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

All adults are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
