Centre County Adds 133 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 7,960

Centre County reported 133 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday to bring its total to 9,973, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 7,960 new positives, bringing the statewide total to 741,389.

The county also had 163 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 53,915. Across Pennsylvania there were 13,212 new negatives for a total of 3,416,372.

Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers reported on Tuesday 14 COVID-19-related deaths that occurred between Dec. 14 and Sunday. The individuals ranged in age from 65 to 98. Ten were reported at Mount Nittany Medical Center, three at long-term care facilities in the 16823 and 16866 zip codes and one at a home in the 16823 zip code.

Sayers has now confirmed a total of 122 COVID-19 deaths in Centre County, ranging in age from 55 to 104. The health department lists 162 deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, an increase of four since Tuesday.

Mount Nittany Medical Center is currently treating 44 COVID-19 patients, an increase of two since Tuesday. The patients are between the ages of 28 and 101, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Statewide, 5,069 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 1,035 in ICU and 645 on ventilators, as of Wednesday morning.

Nursing and personal care homes in Centre County reported four new cases among residents and one among employees. A total of 16 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 632 resident cases, 133 employee cases and 128 resident deaths. 

An estimated 75% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 656,131 are confirmed and 85,258 are probable. In Centre County, 9,325 are confirmed and 648 are probable.
