Centre County Adds 35 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 3,967 New Positives

Centre County reported 35 new COVID-19 cases on Monday to bring its total to 23,392. Among total cases, 21,065 are confirmed and 2,327 are probable

Pennsylvania added 3,967 positives to increase the statewide total to 1,783,118.

The county also had 48 new negative test results to bring the total to 84,996. Statewide, there were 3,141 negatives for a total of 5,935,654.

Deaths

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 264.

With 60 new COVID-19 deaths identified by the Pennsylvania death registry, the statewide total is now 33,962.

Hospitalizations

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 64 COVID-19 inpatients, eight more than DOH reported on Sunday, with seven in intensive care [+1] and six on ventilators.

The patients range in age from 25 to 95, according to Mount Nittany’s COVID-19 inpatient dashboard. Twenty-one are fully vaccinated and 43 are not vaccinated.

Pennsylvania has 4,177 COVID-19 inpatients, 71 more than on Sunday, with 879 in intensive care [-6] and 499 on ventilators [+13], according to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard. Statewide hospitalizations are at their highest level since Jan. 21.

An estimated 90% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation that considers a case as recovered if it has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of the first positive test or onset of symptoms.

Prison cases

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Benner state prison has 23 active COVID-19 cases among inmates and 22 among staff, the second highest among state correctional institutions.

Rockview state prison has three active inmate cases and 19 among staff, the third most among SCIs.

Both facilities are in Benner Township.

At Benner, 1,551 inmates are fully vaccinated, 10 are partially vaccinated and 197 are not vaccinated. Among staff, 284 are fully vaccinated and 344 are not vaccinated.

Rockview has 1,688 inmates who are fully vaccinated and 61 who are not vaccinated. Among staff, 325 are fully vaccinated and 392 are not vaccinated.

Transmission level

All 67 counties in Pennsylvania are at the highest level for community transmission of COVID-19 on the Centers for Disease Control scale, according to the latest county-level data update.

Transmission levels are based on positivity rate and cases per 100,000 people for the previous seven days. At the substantial and high levels, CDC guidance recommends all people, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in public indoor settings.

Vaccinations

As of Monday morning, 89,070 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated, an increase of 380 since DOH’s last update on Friday, and 10,342 are partially covered [+73]. Third doses have been administered to 24,243 county residents [+947].

Among the county’s entire population, 69.7% have received at least one dose and 54.2% are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Among adult residents, 75.9% have received at least one dose and 58.9% are fully vaccinated.

Statewide, 69.5% of adults and 59.3% of the total population are fully vaccinated.

All adults are now eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
