Centre County added 37 COVID-19 cases on Friday to bring its total to 10,041, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
Pennsylvania added 6,047 new positives, bringing the statewide total to 754,611.
The county also had 54 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 54,090. Across Pennsylvania there were 12,519 new negatives for a total of 3,440,494.
The health department reported five new COVID-19 deaths among Centre County residents to bring the total to 167. Coroner Scott Sayers has confirmed 122 deaths in Centre County, ranging in age from 55 to 104.
With 215 new COVID-19 deaths reported on Friday, Pennsylvania’s total is now 18,957.
Mount Nittany Medical Center is currently treating 48 COVID-19 inpatients, one more than Thursday. The patients are between the ages of 18 and 101, according to a hospital spokesperson.
The medical center has admitted 120 COVID-19 patients, with an average census of 48 COVID-19 inpatients per day. In December, Mount Nittany admitted 240 COVID-19 patients with an average daily census of 49 COVID-19 inpatients.
“We continue to operate under our Pandemic Response Plan to monitor and adjust services to meet the needs of the community,” Chief Medical Officer Dr. Nirmal Joshi said in a statement. “We continue to monitor on a daily basis, and will make adjustments as needed to serve our COVID positive inpatients and those needing us for acute and surgical care.
“Even with vaccines gradually being administered, everyone needs to continue taking the precautions we’ve all been talking about: wearing masks, social distancing, washing hands and avoiding large gatherings. It is impossible to predict how long COVID will be with us, what levels of infection we’ll see going forward, and how long it will take before most of the population can be vaccinated.”
Statewide, 4,848 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 1,010 in ICU and 604 on ventilators, as of Friday morning.
Nursing and personal care homes in Centre County reported one new case and three among staff. A total of 16 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 634 resident cases, 136 employee cases and 134 resident deaths.
An estimated 76% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.
Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 666,521 are confirmed and 88,090 are probable. In Centre County, 9,385 are confirmed and 656 are probable.
