Centre County Adds 40 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 2,597 New Positives

Centre County reported 40 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday to bring its total to 16,472, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 2,597 positives for a statewide total of 1,164,216.

Among Centre County’s cases, 15,020 are confirmed and 1,452 are probable. Statewide, 979,486 are confirmed and 184,730 are probable.

The county also also had 138 additional negative test results to increase its total to 68,305. Across Pennsylvania, there were 7,311 new negatives for a total of 4,429,718.

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating 19 COVID-19 inpatients, two more than on Tuesday. The patients range in age from 37 to 93. According to DOH’s hospital preparedness dashboard, two COVID-19 patients in Centre County are in intensive care and one is on a ventilator.

Statewide, Pennsylvania has 2,131 COVID-19 inpatients, a decrease of 41 since Tuesday, with 467 patients in intensive care [-13] and 258 on ventilators [-5].

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the county’s total at 220.

With 56 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is now 26,390.

Among Centre County nursing and personal care homes, four resident cases were removed from the DOH tally and one employee cases was added. A total of 18 long-term care facilities in the county have had 724 resident cases, 159 employee cases and 164 resident deaths.

An estimated 89% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation.

As of Wednesday morning, 53,609 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 19,637 are partially covered.
