Centre County Adds 5 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 496 New Positives

Centre County reported five new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday to bring its total to 16,880, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

It was the county’s seventh consecutive day with five or fewer cases and 15th with fewer than 10.

Pennsylvania added 496 positives, marking the 12th consecutive day with fewer than 1,000 new cases and bringing the statewide total to 1,206,935.

The county reported 61 additional negative test results, bringing its total to 69,995. Statewide, there were 4,920 new negatives for a total of 4,652,121.

Mount Nittany Medical Center is treating nine COVID-19 inpatients between the ages of 56 and 85, unchanged from Tuesday. According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, one COVID-19 patient in Centre County is in intensive care and on a ventilator.

Statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations fell below 700 for the first time since Oct. 8. Pennsylvania has 650 COVID-19 inpatients, a decrease of 60 since Tuesday, with 156 in intensive care [-19] and 109 on ventilators [unchanged].

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the county’s total at 224.

With 22 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is now 27,417.

An estimated 96% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a health department calculation.

As of Wednesday morning, 71,604 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 11,904 are partially covered.

Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in MedicineMount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.

The state-run Regional Vaccination Clinic at the Bryce Jordan Center, which offers vaccinations for ages 18 and older, will be open daily through June 14 for walk-ins only.
