Centre County Adds 50 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 5,730

Centre County reported 50 new COVID-19 on Wednesday to bring its total to 15,431, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 5,730 cases for a statewide total of 1,087,792. As a result of a new lab submitting results, the total includes 1,101 positive antigen test results that were collected more than three days ago and ranging back to mid-January, according to the health department. Allegheny County accounted for 85% of those newly identified cases.

Centre County also had 98 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 66,259. Across Pennsylvania, there were 8,416 new negatives for a total of 4,251,130.

According to DOH’s hospital preparedness dashboard, which includes Mount Nittany Medical Center and rehabilitation hospitals, 28 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, with six in intensive care and three on ventilators.

Across Pennsylvania 2,580 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized [an increase of 39 since Tuesday], including 542 in intensive care [+12] and 262 on ventilators [+2].

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents, keeping the total at 213 for the 39th consecutive day.

With 50 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is 25,522.

Nursing and personal care homes in Centre County reported two new cases among employees. A total of 18 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 725 resident cases, 157 employee cases and 163 resident deaths.

An estimated 89% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, per a health department calculation. 

As of Wednesday morning, 37,697 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 20,198 are partially covered.

Among Pennsylvania’s cases, 920,147 are confirmed and 167,645 are probable. In Centre County, 14,078 are confirmed and 1,353 are probable.
