Centre County Adds 7 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 583 New Positives

Centre County reported seven new COVID-19 cases on Saturday to increase its total to 17,003, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 583 positives, bringing the statewide total to 1,219,558.

The county also reported 91 negative test results to bring its total to 72,343. Statewide, there were 8,019 new negatives for a total of 4,875,853.

Centre County’s positivity rate and new cases increased for a second consecutive week. For the week of July 16-July 22, the county’s PCR testing positivity rate was 2.9%, up from 1.8% the previous seven days, according to the updated DOH early warning monitoring dashboard. The rate was tied for 39th among Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.

The county had 29 confirmed cases last week, up from 19 the prior week.

The statewide positivity rate was 2.8.%, up from 1.7% the previous seven days. It was the third consecutive week Pennsylvania’s positivity rate increased after 12 consecutive weeks of decreases. The commonwealth had 2,393 new positives last week, up from 1,542 the prior week.

According to the DOH hospital preparedness dashboard, eight COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Centre County, three more than on Friday. None are in intensive care or on ventilators.

A statewide uptick in COVID-19 hospitalizations continued. Pennsylvania has 364 COVID-19 inpatients, an increase of 17 since Friday, with 82 in intensive care [+7] and 37 on ventilators [+8].

Average daily COVID-specific hospitalizations in Centre County increased from to 3.7 to 4.3 for the week of July 16-22. Pennsylvania’s average COVID hospitalizations increased from 251.6 to 289.4.

DOH reported no new deaths attributed to the virus among Centre County residents on Saturday, keeping the total at 228.

With three new COVID-19 death statewide, Pennsylvania’s total is now 27,823.

An estimated 97% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a health department calculation.

As of Saturday morning, 77,273 people in Centre County are fully vaccinated and 5,348 are partially covered.

Vaccination appointments for ages 12 and older are available through Centre Volunteers in Medicine, Mount Nittany Health and through other pharmacies and providers listed at vaccines.gov.
