Centre County Adds 71 COVID-19 Cases; Pennsylvania Reports 7,166

Centre County added 71 COVID-19 cases on Saturday to bring its total to 10,112, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Pennsylvania added 7,166 new positives, bringing the statewide total to 761,777.

The county also had 190 additional negative test results, increasing its total to 54,280. Across Pennsylvania there were 14,737 new negatives for a total of 3,455,231.

The health department reported two new COVID-19 deaths among Centre County residents to bring the total to 169. Coroner Scott Sayers has confirmed 122 deaths in Centre County, ranging in age from 55 to 104.

With 231 new COVID-19 deaths reported on Saturday, Pennsylvania’s total is now 19,188.

According to DOH’s hospital preparedness dashboard, 53 COVID-19 patients in Centre County are hospitalized, including two in intensive care and one on a ventilator. Health department data includes Mount Nittany Medical Center and rehabilitation hospitals.

On Friday, Mount Nittany had 48 COVID-19 inpatients between the ages of 18 and 101.

Statewide, 4,743 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, including 962 in ICU and 594 on ventilators, as of Saturday morning.

Nursing and personal care homes in Centre County reported seven new cases among residents and one among staff. A total of 16 long-term care facilities in the county have had a combined 641 resident cases, 137 employee cases and 134 resident deaths.

Centre County’s PCR test positivity rate for the week of Jan. -14 was 9.1%, down from 12.5% the previous seven days, according to the health department’s early warning monitoring dashboard. The statewide positivity rate was 12.7%, down from 14.5% the prior week.

An estimated 76% of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Among Pennsylvania’s total cases, 672,439 are confirmed and 89,338 are probable. In Centre County, 9,447 are confirmed and 665 are probable.
