Hotel in works off Benner Pike

BENNER TOWNSHIP — Growth continues along Benner Pike with a four-story hotel in the works near the roadway’s intersection with Amberleigh Lane.

The 82-room “Benner Pike Hotel” was discussed by county Subdivision and Land Development Planner Christopher Schnure during a board meeting on June 21.

The commissioners moved a memorandum of understanding for the project’s final land development plan to next week’s consent agenda.

The site of the project is a four-acre lot across Amberleigh Lane from Penn State Federal Credit Union. Klaban’s Furniture borders the other side of the property and Restek sits directly behind it.

The lot is being divided into two, and the hotel is planned for the two-acre parcel 300 feet from Benner Pike and Amberleigh Lane intersection, with access coming from Amberleigh Lane.

Schnure said there are currently no plans for the other section of the subdivision.

“It is nice to see a hotel going up in Bellefonte,” said commissioner Mark Higgins.

He added, in reference to the proposed Bellefonte Waterfront Project, “In the future we’ll have two hotels in the Bellefonte zip code.”

“We continue to see a lot of development off that interchange, and Benner Township is an area that you (Schnure) continue to focus on in the planning office,” said commissioner Michael Pipe.

“It is great to see all the private sector investments in the greater Bellefonte area,” said Higgins.

The MOU is an agreement between the county, Benner Township and the developer that calls for the developer to reimburse the cost of the township’s engineers’ processing, reviewing and inspecting of the engineering details of the final land development plan.
