Bald Eagle Area opened the season with two wipeouts, pounding out 12 hits in an 11-0 rout in five innings at Tyrone on March 28 and amassing 13 hits in an 18-0, three-inning domination of Huntingdon on April 3.

Against Tyrone, Shae Housel had two doubles and drove in four runs, while Alyssa King rapped a double and drove in two. Kaily Eckert and Ava Stere had two hits apiece.

BEA pitching ace Sierra Albright tossed a one-hitter, struck out eight and walked three.

“Sierra really was in control all game,” BEA Coach Don Lucas said. “She hit her spots. We played very well on defense, and offensively we hit up and down the lineup.”

In the April 3 romp, Stere had two hits, including a grand slam, and knocked in five runs. Junior Rachel Bryan had two hits, including a triple, and four RBIs. Eckert and Taylor Habovick also had two hits.

The Lady Eagles were scheduled to play at Philipsburg-Osceola on April 4 and at Clearfield on April 6.

PENNS VALLEY

Penns Valley’s Noelle Webb scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on an error in a 4-3 victory against Hollidaysburg at home on March 28.

The Lady Rams tied the game at 3-3 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Taylor Bumgardner hit a two-run home run in the inning. That was followed by back-to-back doubles by Avery Dinges and Ellie Coursen.

“We left some runners on early, and some early mistakes led to some runs for them,” Penns Valley Coach Terry Bumgardner said. “Hollidaysburg is solid, and has good pitching. Our ladies showed some grit and stepped up when we needed it.”

Dinges got the pitching win in relief of Bumgardner, giving up six hits and one run while striking out five and walking two in four innings.

Penns Valley (2-0), which had a game against Philipsburg-Osceola postponed on April 3, was scheduled to visit Bellefonte on April 4 before playing at Tyrone on April 6 and hosting Claysburg-Kimmel on April 7.

STATE COLLEGE

State College opened the season with a 12-0 win in five innings at Altoona on March 27 thanks to 12 walks by three Altoona pitchers and five hits.

But two days later, the Lady Little Lions suffered a 4-2 loss at Mifflin County.

The Lady Little Lions scored nine runs in the second inning against Altoona. Senior Ava Babcock homered and had two RBIs, while sophomore Kennedy Stahl also homered and scored three runs off the bench.

Sophomore Jessica Hawbaker doubled and walked twice. Senior Haley Weaver and sophomore Gabrielle McTavish scored two runs each.

Sophomore Addison Harpster tossed a two-hitter, struck out 12 and walked one.

Against Mifflin County, State College could only muster five hits against pitcher Madison Wolfgang, who struck out five and walked none. Babcock had three of those hits. Harpster yielded only six hits, struck out three and walked five.

State College was scheduled to host Chambersburg on April 4 and travel to Cedar Cliff on April 6.

PHILIPSBURG-OSCEOLA

Philipsburg-Osceola went 1-1 last week, rolling to a 10-0 win over Huntingdon in five innings on March 28 and getting overwhelmed by Central Mountain, 20-4, on March 30.

Against Huntingdon, the Lady Mounties amassed 14 hits, including four from Maddyx Hampton. Mykenna Bryan had three hits and two RBIs, and Alivia Bizzarri delivered two hits.

Bizzarri tossed a two-hitter, struck out 10 and walked none.

There weren’t many highlights against Central Mountain, which had 19 hits, including four from Katelyn Bowman. Abby Vaux had two hits for the Lady Mounties.

P-O (2-1) was back in action on April 4 at home against Bald Eagle Area and on April 6 at Hollidaysburg.

BELLEFONTE

Bellefonte rolled past defending state champion Clearfield, 10-3, on March 28, but no details were reported.

The Lady Red Raiders (2-0), whose game against Tyrone on March 31 was postponed, were scheduled to host Penns Valley on April 4 before visiting Huntingdon on April 6.
