BELLEFONTE — Despite a second-place effort from Talia McCloskey on uneven bars, the Lady Red Raiders weren’t able to overcome Waynesboro on Dec. 20, falling 131.000 to 125.075.
“I believe we had a great first performance of the season,” said Bellefonte head coach Kelsey Wellar. “The first meet always comes up very fast and the team handled it very well.”
Bellefonte’s event totals included a vault score of 32.800; uneven bars score of 28.050; balance beam score of 32.535; and floor exercise score of 7.200.
We still have a lot of things to add to the routines they performed and perfect what they currently have,” said Wellar. “I believe as the season goes on, we will improve meet by meet.”
McCloskey’s 8.400 score in the uneven bars was only topped by Waynesboro’s Camryn Bonner, who posted a 9.075 tally. Other Lady Raiders that competed in the event were Aubrey Tressler, sixth (6.800); Paige Jodon, eighth (6.450); Mady Miller, ninth (6.400); and Rebecca Burns, 10th (5.675).
Jodon posted the best Bellefonte score in the vault event with an 8.400, which was good enough for fourth place. McCloskey vaulted to a fifth-place finish (8.250) and was followed by fellow Lady Red Raiders Burns in seventh (8.100), Miller in ninth (8.050) and Gloria Doherty in tenth (7.900).
In the balance beam event, Tressler grabbed third place with an average score of 6.075. Teammates that followed included McCloskey in fourth (8.150), Jodon in fifth (7.950), Miller in sixth (7.900) and Doherty in tenth (6.175).
McCloskey also had a good performance on the floor, securing third place with an 8.500 score. Other Lady Raiders that competed in the event were Jodon, fourth (8.400); Miller, sixth (7.600); Burns, eighth (7.200); and Doherty, tenth (6.475).
All-around, McCloskey finished in second place with an overall score of 33.275. Jodon placed fifth with a score of 31.200. Miller placed sixth overall with a score of 29.950.
Wellar said she was impressed by the performances of team’s two freshmen – Miller and Doherty. Alyssa Eckard did not compete in the event for the Lady Red Raiders.
“This group of girls is a tight knit group and with that bond they have, they will achieve great things this season,” said Weller.
Bellefonte’s next three competitions will be on the road: Jan. 3 at Ridgway; Jan. 7 at St. Marys; and Jan. 11 at the league meet, also in St. Marys.
