Chalk the Walk, live music to be featured in Bellefonte

Submitted by Downtown Bellefonte Inc.

BELLEFONTE — Friday in the ’Fonte — a free summertime event which supports Bellefonte’s shopping, dining, craft beverage producers and more — is held on the last Friday of the month in May, June, July and September.

As part of the Friday in the ’Fonte celebration in July, organizers are bringing Bellefonte to life with colorful artwork created with chalk on High, Allegheny and Spring streets downtown.

Squares will be designed by residents and families, as well as local businesses and organizations during this fundraiser that benefits Downtown Bellefonte Inc.

Participants can purchase one or more $25 squares to design and decorate between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday — supplies are included.

At 1:30 p.m., a panel will judge each square in one of three categories: family/children; business/organization; and individual. New this year, organizers are adding a People’s Choice Award, where social media followers will also vote on their favorite square via social media. All prize winners will be announced on Downtown Bellefonte Inc.’s Facebook page in the week following the event.

Register and pick up chalk at the Downtown Bellefonte Inc. table at Friday in the ’Fonte (near the Library and Historical Museum) starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, and in front of Bellefonte SpringBoard (127 S. Allegheny St.) on Saturday.

Howard Street will be filled with artisans and live music by Miss Melanie and the Valley Rats; music is sponsored by Blink and Bellefonte.com. URBN Flavourhaus will be grilling chicken and burgers or grab takeout from your favorite downtown restaurant, and enjoy it while sipping on a craft beverage from Big Spring Spirits and Axemann Brewery.

Portfolio A Salon will be offering free makeup and hair consultations, hand massages and discounts on products and pre-booking appointments. Join Local Historia on a free historic walking tour at 5, 6 and 7 p.m. and make sure to participate in the Shop Small Crawl by purchasing a Bellefonte tote and collecting buttons while shopping at local establishments.

Venture over to the Children’s Garden, located behind the historical museum, and join in a scavenger hunt led by the master gardeners and Garden Club. Learn about night pollinators and make your own nature bracelet from 5 to 7 p.m.

Full of Hot Air will be twisting balloon animals for the kids’ enjoyment. “Rock artists” are invited to express their own individuality with positive messages, designs, symbols and colors. Painted stones will be used to create a path as a metaphor of how the individuality and uniquenesses come together to create a beautiful community. Rock art supplies are sponsored by Nature’s Cover and Bellefonte Art Museum.
