PATTON TOWNSHIP — After fire damaged the Woodycrest United Methodist Church, 219 W. Clearview Ave. in Patton Township, on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 14, the community has rallied together to raise money for recovery efforts.
While portions of the damage and rebuilding expenses are covered by insurance, a GoFundMe has been created to help cover repairs.
As of the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 23, $3,575 of $10,000 donation goal has been raised.
“Despite this heartbreaking situation, our faith remains strong, and we are determined to rebuild and restore our place of worship,” the GoFundMe page noted. “While we are thankful that our insurance will cover a portion of the rebuilding efforts, there are many expenses that insurance does not fully address.”
The church noted on the GoFundMe that the money raised will go towards the $2,5000 insurance deductible, restoring and replacing church contents like furniture, historical items and equipment, reconstruction of the church, space rental for a temporary worship location while repairs are done and other unforeseen costs.
“Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference as we work to rebuild not just a building but a place that serves as a spiritual home for so many,” the GoFundMe noted. “Woodycrest United Methodist Church has been a beacon of hope, faith and community for almost 88 years, and we are committed to continuing that legacy with your help.”
