Cranksgiving to benefit YSB

STATE COLLEGE — CentreBike, a local nonprofit organization committed to bicycle advocacy, welcomes the community to the Fifth Annual Cranksgiving food drive. This event will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Nov. 4 at Videon Central (2171 Sandy Drive), and all are encouraged to participate. Rain date is set for Nov. 11.

Cranksgiving is a bicycle-powered food drive benefiting the Centre County Youth Service Bureau. Participants need a bicycle, lock, helmet, bags/backpacks/panniers and a minimum of $25 to purchase needed items. E-bikes and bicycle trailers are welcomed.

Registration for this event is free and available online. For additional information and to register, please visit cranksgivingstatecollege.com. Individuals unable to attend the event but eager to contribute to the cause can donate to YSB using the donation link on the website.

“The Flock” is a group ride that will leave from Videon Central at 11 a.m. and visit the local Weis and Giant grocery stores.

Cranksgiving originated in New York City in 1999 and has grown to over 90 events worldwide annually, with State College hosting its own the past four years. To date, the local Cranksgiving event has seen 350 cyclists donate over 5,500 pounds of food, valued at over $10,000.
