STATE COLLEGE — Hotel rates for the weekend of Saturday, Dec. 21, have shot up in price due to the Penn State football home playoff game.
A two-night stay will now run Happy Valley visitors anywhere between $1,700 to $3,500 total, according to Hotels.com.
Penn State fans have been expecting a home playoff game for the past few weeks, so many of the hotels are already sold out.
According to Statecollege.com, The Centre County Gazette’s media partner, as of Monday, Dec. 9, here are the hotels available and their rates, including taxes and fees:
• Carnegie House — $1,599 per night/$3,550 total
• Country Inn and Suites by Raddison — $1,510 per night/$3,351 total
• Toftrees Golf Resort — $1,499 per night/$3,328 total
• Springhill Suites by Marriott — $1,499 per night/$3,328 total
• Holiday Inn Express State College at Williamsburg Square — $1,294 per night/$2,872.70 total (Priceline.com)
• Best Western Plus University Park Inn & Suites — $1,249 per night/$2,742 total
• Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott — $1,194 per night/$2,651 total
• Comfort Suites — $999 per night/$2,218 total
• Nittany Budget Motel — $799 per night/$1,774 total
With many people traveling for the weekend due to the holidays, even non-football visitors are feeling the effects of the home playoff game.
People visiting will have to stay further away from their family or pay over a thousand dollars a night.
For those looking for cheaper options, potentially a little further away, some options include a hotel stay in Altoona which generally starts at $248 on Booking.com. The drive from Altoona to State College is slightly over 45 minutes.
In Huntingdon, hotels such as the Comfort Inn start at $359. Depending on where you are in Huntingdon, the drive to downtown State College is around 40 minutes.
Another option is the Airbnb route. Most of the State College houses and rooms are sold out, but there is still availability in places such as Altoona, Huntingdon and Port Matilda. All places are within a short drive from State College.
